Sostento
Sostento is a non-profit founded in 2019 by public health specialists, designers, and technologists to support frontline health workers and underserved communities across the United States, focusing on low-income and uninsured populations by removing barriers like transportation and complex referrals to prevent sickness and save lives. They offer pragmatic solutions such as transportation assistance, referral system improvements, and community health initiatives, with a goal to help at least 10% of uninsured individuals overcome healthcare barriers by 2030. Services include partnerships for rides to medical care; financial statements and 990s are provided for transparency. (This is not particular to SC).
Catch a Ride Network
Catch a Ride Network, powered by Feonix - Mobility Rising, is a nonprofit mobility platform helping communities remove transportation barriers through local partnerships, technology, and coordinated ride support. Through the Community Booking Account platform and mobility wallet technology, agencies, healthcare partners, employers, and community organizations can book and manage rides for the people they serve to essential destinations like doctors, pharmacies, grocery stores, jobs, schools, and social services. The network strengthens local mobility ecosystems by coordinating providers, supporting riders, identifying matching funds, and helping partners launch sustainable transportation access programs. South Carolina Youth Advocate Program (SCYAP) Transportation Services
The South Carolina Youth Advocate Program (SCYAP) is a state-wide organization providing comprehensive support for youth and families in foster care and mental health systems, including safe and reliable transportation as a key component to ensure access to services. They offer transportation for therapy sessions, court hearings, family visits, reunification efforts, pre-placement interviews, and home visits, available state-wide and out-of-state when needed, with drivers trained in professionalism, respect, verbal de-escalation, and safety; referrals must come from South Carolina government agencies, and they hire part-time Advocates and Transporters (age 21+) from diverse backgrounds.
The COMET (Central Midlands Regional Transit Authority)
The COMET, officially the Central Midlands Regional Transit Authority (CMRTA), is a regional transportation authority formed in 2000 by Richland County, City of Columbia, City of Forest Acres and Lexington County to operate public transit in the Columbia metropolitan area. They offer 47 fixed routes, ReFlex services, vanpool for commuters, subsidies with Uber and Lyft, DART for grocery and night time transport, ADA complementary paratransit in Richland and parts of Lexington Counties, and the Soda Cap Connector in Downtown Columbia, serving about 2.4 million passenger trips annually with a fleet of over 90 vehicles; customer service is available in-person at COMET Central (7 a.m.-5 p.m.) and via call center (803-255-7100, 7 a.m.-7 p.m.).
The Way There and Back

Pee Dee Regional Transportation Authority (PDRTA)
The Pee Dee Regional Transportation Authority (PDRTA) is a public transit agency formed in 1974 as South Carolina’s first Regional Transportation Authority, serving the six-county Pee Dee region (Chesterfield, Darlington, Dillon, Florence, Marion, and Marlboro) with fixed-route bus services, paratransit, and mobile ticketing. They offer reliable transportation for work, medical appointments, shopping, and daily needs, carrying over 1,000 passengers daily across 44 routes, with features like live tracking, route planning via the PDRTA-Sync app (available on App Store and Google Play), and travel training for first-time riders; their mission emphasizes integrity, respect and efficiency to promote mobility independence.
